Emily Blunt’s A Quiet Place unable to beat Peter Rabbit as it earns $2.42m in first weekend at box office
Thriller film A Quiet Place – which topped the US box office – pulled in $2.42m on its local weekend debut for Paramount, leaving it in third place.
Last week’s weekend box office champion, Steven Spielberg’s take on sci-fi novel Ready Player One, was knocked into second place with $2.56m this weekend, with Sony Pictures’ children’s film Peter Rabbit back on top thanks to $2.90m in ticket sales. After two weeks in theatres, Ready Player One has now earned $8.73m in total. Peter Rabbit, which has been in local theatres one week longer, has earned $14.93m.
American comedy Blockers, which features John Cena and Leslie Mann, also had its third week in cinemas, pulling in an additional $1.73m, taking its total to $6.86m, according to the Motion Pictures Distributors Association of Australia.
Love, Simon’s total increased by $915,300 this weekend, taking its total earnings to $3.51m.
Sherlock Gnomes also had its weekend debut, pulling in $783,488 for Paramount, ahead of Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, which added $685,197, taking its total to $3.97m.
