Friday On My Mind at ACMI: FremantleMedia’s Creative Director: Jason Stephens – Realising ideas
Creative Director of FreemantleMedia, Jason Stephens, has had an illustrious career in television, overseeing some of Australia’s most lauded comedy, dramas and factual series including AFI-winning The King, critically acclaimed Killing Time, Logie Award-winning Choir of Hard Knocks and the recent AACTA nominated mini series Devil’s Dust.
Jason began his career writing sketch comedy, before becoming a member of legendary comedy troupe The D-Generation. He was a writer and performer for five years as part of their radio breakfast show, sketch comedy series D-Generation Goes Commercial and The Late Show.
In 2004 he became Head of Development for Crackerjack, before being appointed Director of Development, then Creative Director for FremantleMedia Australia.
Jason established Bravado Productions in 2010, a joint venture with FremantleMedia, to produce scripted drama. Killing Time, Devil’s Dust, and Mr & Mrs Murder, which he created with Shaun Micallef, comes out of that arrangement as does his most recent series Better Man, about the last Australian executed abroad, which just screened on SBS. In an industry where there are plenty of ideas but very few opportunities to have them realised, Jason will share his views into the reasons ideas do-and-don’t get made. Join us for some practical insights into the industry.
