Finally – a secret club for businessmen who fear women flirting with them
Dr Mumbo was delighted to receive a piece of targeted Facebook advertising today from a new Sydney business networking group of which he had been previously unaware “Man Business – Man style events for business men”.
Run at Village Coworking in North Sydney (who are also the registered owner of the URL), the group is quite something. As Man Business explains itself on Facebook:
“We are humble men, we find women flirting with us at networking events to get our business uncomfortable and a conflict with our values. We enjoy hanging out with other guys without the distraction of flirting women who blur lines between business and social. Guys just get it and make it easy to do”.
There’s more on the Man Business website too. It is, apparently, “Fight Club meets corporate” for people who “enjoy the finer qualities of being a man”. Inexplicably, only 44 people have liked the Man Business Facebook page so far.
Happily they’ve even posted photos of their October networking event, so those of the population cursed with two X chromosomes can get a glimpse inside this secret world and understand just what they are missing.
Fair to say that nobody is being distracted by flirting women.
From the people pictured, you really have to worry about how often they were bothered with other people flirting with them at all.

Yeah, I’m too busy working on my career, raising a family and spending time with my loving husband to waste time flirting/networking with a bunch of balding, middle age men who appear to be going through a mid-life crisis. Feel free to “enjoy the finer qualities of being a man” without me, I don’t think I am missing out on much.
Regards
A Woman who has better things to do.

What about lesbians. No chance of them flirting with these “men”. Maybe they should open it up to men and women who have no interest in men. They might get a few more people to their obviously scintillating functions. FFS. What next?

Call me old fashioned but I rather enjoy being flirted with by an attractive, smart young woman, with a big expense account, just to get my business. Beats unsolicited approaches via LinkedIn any day of the week and twice on Sundays…..

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

Humble:
having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s importance.
So… that marries up well with assuming that women are flirting madly with you at networking events. I think that actually comes under ‘egotistical’.

How is this any different to fernwood?

Jason, maybe if you know a woman you could ask her that question.

Good for you ‘Annonymous’, you’d better hurry up and request an invitation to their February event. It’s going to be quite crowded if all four of the people who’ve said they are going on Facebook turn up 🙂

If only there were women’s business luncheons, then all could bathe in equality!

The Man Business website 404’s for me.
They must have taken it down to work on the grammar in the copy.

What’s the difference between this and women’s networking groups? “Women in Business” breakfasts or other such things?
Fernwood is also a great example.

Of the ‘women in business’ groups alluded to here the largest is most probably Business Chicks. I go to some of their lunches and events. Men are in a minority of course, but there is always at least one on my table. And they are not excluded in any way from joining the organisation.
Why is Fernwood all female? Because there is no disadvantage to men, in providing women with a safe and respectful place to work out. For some women, they can’t work out without being able to access an all female gym. Other women have had bad experiences with male focused gyms. Men have no such restrictions.
As usual, men who complain that women get special treatment are actually concerned that women are gaining the same privileges they enjoy.

#24, sorry, are you saying I must be some rabid feminazi because a bloke left me?
Just because I have a penis doesn’t mean I can’t call bullshit on sexist crap when I see it.

The difference between this and Fernwood? Fernwood is personal, this is business.

Back in the day, my grandfather told my father, once he was married, that he could only go to into the public bar in the local boozer (where women were usually not allowed). It was a ‘kinda’ etiquette because many a ‘bloke’, after a few beers, had damaged their families reputation, due to drinking and then apparent and subsequent debauchery…
Dad never cheated with anyone in the pub. The local green grocers wife however, used to deliver our fruit and veg in person, direct to our house. I remember once hearing, (from behind a closed bedroom door), how big my dad’s cucumber was. He exclaimed how much he liked her, large, ripe melons..!?
