Head of Bauer Xcel Christian Fricke exits Bauer Media
Christian Fricke, Bauer Media’s managing director of its digital arm Bauer Xcel Media has resigned from the company.
Fricke joined the Australian branch in July last year, after managing the Bauer Xcel office in Germany since August 2012. He has also held leadership positions in the company’s print business.
Mumbrella understands staff have been told Fricke is returning to Germany for family reasons.
Mumbrella understands Bauer Media also will not continue to publish Weight Watchers or Myer Emporium.
In Fricke’s time with the company, he was responsible for the removal of three senior roles, after admitting the company did not meet its targets. He was also responsible for the launch of Now to Love.
In September this year, new Bauer CEO Paul Dykzeul announced a major shuffle of the publisher’s executive line up, including the closure of its custom publishing arm Bauer Works – however Fricke’s job remained safe.
At the same time, Cornelia Schulze’s role as general manager homes and food at Bauer Media changed to general manager publisher. Mumbrella understands she has since left the company.
It has been speculated however, that Dykzeul only entered the company as a ‘seat warmer’ for Fricke, who would later take the helm of the publishing company.
Dykzuel thanked Fricke for his service to the company.
“Christian has made an outstanding contribution to Bauer Media, particularly around the launch of Now to Love, which has captured our news and lifestyle content for our growing digital audience. We wish him all the best for the future,” he said.
Dykzeul and head of digital at Bauer Media NZ Michael Fuyala will take over responsibility for the Australian Xcel team.

Nobody seems to be picking up the phones these days. Was beginning to wonder if anyone is still there.

With most of the development team gone and only content editors left – who is going to pick up the pieces when the sites go down…?
Having great content is good for nothing when you can’t view it…
Bauer is stuck in the dark ages of paper and ink.
