Jobs to go across NSW and South Australia as News Corp re-structures marketing

News Corp has axed a number of roles in its marketing teams across South Australia and News South Wales as it moves towards a centralised model.

The teams affected are responsible for promoting events around titles like Adelaide’s The Advertiser, retail services and tactical marketing communications.

The exact number of roles affected is not clear

Mumbrella understands there are numerous roles affected in South Australia, while the number in NSW is unclear, however the team involved in News Corp’s national campaign, We’re For You, earlier this year remains safe.

Mumbrella has also heard speculation the restructure could affect roles country-wide.

The restructure revelation comes four weeks after The Australian Financial Review reported a number of editorial roles had been axed across The Australian, Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph.

At the time, it was understood that the redundancies were part of a restructuring and transformation project currently underway at News Corp.

A spokesperson for News Corp told Mumbrella today: “A number of changes to the state marketing teams were announced this week. It follows the restructure of the group marketing function a month ago. The changes at a state level are designed to align roles and responsibilities to those at a group level. Unfortunately this has resulted in a small number of roles being made redundant.”

The latest round of job cuts follow redundancies for a number of photographers and production staff. In July this year, News Corp and Fairfax Media, which is set to be owned by Nine, entered an agreement to share printing presses in a bid to save costs. News Corp told Mumbrella at the time none of its employees were affected by the changes.

Tony Phillips, News Corp’s chief marketing officer, announced his departure in June. Two months ago, News Corp also announced a new head of trade marketing, Charlie Murdoch.
