Accountant / Finance Assistant

Based in Sydney but reporting to the Finance Manager in the Melbourne office you will be expected to perform a range of accounting tasks that support the wider financial team.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Being responsible for a wide range of duties to support the Financial and Management Accountants, the Assistant Accountant’s typical role will include the responsibilities as below:

Budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis and provision of commentaries for Senior Management.

Providing decision support to your Account Service leads.

Monthly Financial Reporting and overseeing the P&L and balance sheet.

Working with the Account team in the Melbourne office. The successful candidate should be a qualified accountant (CA, CPA or CIMA) with more than 2 years of commercial accounting experience within the Marketing Services and/ or Media Sector.

You should be technically strong and have strong communication skills.

Preparation and processing of month end reporting up to the trial balance stage

Setting KPI’s and performance targets for staff.

Setting budgets KPI for the agency.

Processing of accruals, prepayments and subsequent journals

Overseeing or assisting with the Fixed Assets Register

Reconciliations including General Ledger and Balance Sheet

Processing foreign currency Payments (if applicable)

Managing inter-company transactions (if applicable)

Preparation of FBT, GST and BAS returns for the Manager to review before submission

Lodgement of ABS returns

Assisting with the preparation of budgeting and forecasting reports

Involvement in the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll may be required

Human Resources – Onboarding set up.

Other ad hoc accounting duties to support the broader team

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

Ability to work within strict deadlines and reporting timetables

Prioritisation and organisational skills

Excellent attention to detail

Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Some knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards

Able to show initiative and be a self-starter

Intermediate computer software skills, including Excel (vlookups and pivot tables) and

Accounting packages – Workbook or similar.

Business Degree, with a major in Finance or Accounting
