Campaigns and Community Advocacy Manager

The Fred Hollows Foundation aims to end avoidable blindness and prevent the inequity of vision loss. Four out of five people who are blind don’t have to be, they’re blind because they live in poverty or can’t access health services in countries like Australia. The Fred Hollows Foundation works to address this, carrying on Fred’s commitment to a more just world.
This is a rare chance to help a much loved and established not-for-profit expand its work into a new area – public advocacy and campaigning. This new role is focused on increasing the campaigning capacity within the Public Affairs team at The Fred Hollows Foundation, and developing winning public campaigns that address inequity in eye-health.
The Fred Hollows Foundation believes it has a strong role to play in making sure eye-health is accessible to all, and that governments and the private sector both have responsibilities to deliver more for patients and their families.
As a Campaigns and Community Advocacy Manager in the Public Affairs division, you will work on campaign areas including:
• Health justice: Campaigns that target existing injustice in the provision of eye-health in Australia and overseas.
• Indigenous eye-health: Campaigns that close the gap in eye-health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
• Aid and development: Campaigns that support a stronger voice for the Australian Aid sector.
• Public awareness: Campaigns that increase awareness of issues in eye-health and the need for action.
• Brand: Campaigns that continue to highlight the legacy and values of Professor Fred Hollows to new audiences.
• Fundraising: Campaigns that contribute to raising resources for eye-health.

About the position
Core accountabilities include:
• Developing new campaign initiatives to test and deploy in market.
• Monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of initiatives against clear ROI measures.
• Establishing a “Campaign Lab” of experienced staff drawn from across The Foundation to refine campaign concepts.
• Working collaboratively with frontline teams including Digital, Communications, Public Relations, and Direct Marketing to engage the public.
• Working with external stakeholders and allies to strengthen public engagement activities.
• Maintaining a monitoring briefs across significant public policy and political processes that could impact The Fred Hollows Foundation.
• Supporting existing government relations, lobbying and advocacy work with complementary campaign initiatives.
• Supporting existing fundraising appeals with innovative ideas and complementary initiatives.

About you
You’re creative, digitally active and passionate about changing the world. You possess high level awareness of digital campaigning, engagement and fundraising techniques and you keep up to date with industry trends. A people person, you collaborate well with others and value the experience and knowledge of colleagues. You’re proactive in leading the generation of new ideas, champion innovative solutions for best-practice and take responsibility for the effective delivery and execution of campaigns. An inspiring leader, you value individual team members and focus on team achievement to reach common goals.

A background in the policy basis of good advocacy is preferable but we recognise candidates may have more or less experience in some areas. We encourage candidates with core skills around digital campaigning and a desire to expand their skills in other areas to apply for the role.
