Creative Director, Australian Geographic

Could you be the new Creative Director of one of Australia’s most iconic and respected magazine mastheads?

AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC is the nation’s leading natural history storytelling magazine brand, and we seek a passionate, talented individual to lead the creative direction of the brand now and into the future.
Working as a key member of an experienced, award-winning editorial team, the Creative Director will be responsible for the creative direction and design of Australian Geographic, both in print and online, including the brand’s portfolio of magazines, books and other design-led products that has at its heart the AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC bi-monthly magazine that is consistently ranked among the top ten most read magazines in Australia.
You will oversee the integrity of the brand’s identity, and ensure its unique values are communicated accurately across all touch points.
You will have a proven track record in excellence, quality and innovation in design in a high-profile design-led organisation. You will be able to juggle competing priorities, manage budgets, deadlines, internal staff and freelancers. You will commission original photography, cartography and illustration and seek to broaden the pool of talent currently used by AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC.
You will share our passion for nature, possess a spirit of adventure and support our commitment to storytelling that explicitly explores the Australian environment and the challenges that face our natural world.

Skills and experience
Experienced Creative Director with over 7 years of experience in print.
Strong typography/layout skills. Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience briefing illustrators and cartographers
Excellent time management
Excellent industry contacts
People management experience
Outstanding knowledge of the entire ecosystem of print creation and production from ideation to finished delivered product.
Experience in digital design.

You will already have the right to work permanently in Australia.
