Editor and junior journo wanted for exciting sustainability business publication

Join an exciting business and sustainability publication with high regard among influential business and political leaders. It’s a chance to shape the agenda.

We’re looking for two roles.

One is as editor, breaking news, writing analysis and finding the big ideas that will shape the future of our world. We’re a well read, influential publication; and you can’t find a more interesting area to work in, with a huge satisfaction benefits.

This is a sector that’s attracting the most creative, energised and powerful people in Australia and globally: entrepreneurs in new energy and technology such as electric vehicles; huge global investors and impact capital funds; designers and builders working on breakthrough solutions for more sustainable buildings and construction; urban planners working on placemaking and better more affordable housing solutions; humanists and social change agents.
Add government policy makers and the people who are flocking to the business opportunities on offer in all these areas and you can see this is the most exciting sector to work in, anywhere (well, we’re seriously biased).

What we need is someone who will respond to the challenges and wants to help shape the agenda and, at the same time, advance their own career in a fairly high-profile way.

You will be helping with day to day news, commissioning and processing articles, helping with events such as high-level salons and masterclasses, videos and podcasts, if you’re so inclined.

The Fifth Estate, launched in April 2009, is on a growth path. We’re already highly regarded and well read among senior decision makers and thought leaders in business and government and now is our time to shine, and grow.
Our job is to be the most timely and trusted source of critical news in this space.

Our readers are leaders in business and government, designers, consultants, investors and consumers with a passion to change, for the better.

We publish two newsletters each week, ebooks, events, webinars and more.

You will need:
• Formal journalism qualification and or newsroom experience
• Great writing skills
• Hunger for news, finding and connecting the threads that point to the major trends shaping our world
• A passion for sustainability
• A nose for what makes business tick
• Some technical skills with video, audio, web management, and design desirable
• And very little convincing this is a great job for you

JOURNALIST for The Green List

We’re also looking for a more junior role to manage our sister site The Green List, a solutions-based “magazine/directory” for consumers and businesses.

This requires strong content-producing skills, energy, creative flair and a thirst to build a super-strong audience in social media.

You will need to be a budding star reporter with at least some experience and ambition to develop the profile of the publication alongside your own.

You will need to write news, social media and content for the directory plus help with posting articles, sourcing great images and pitching in with help for The Fifth Estate when needed, in other words, all the skill sets you need to build a strong career portfolio, including creating great contacts.

Our offices
Our offices are in Glebe, Sydney, and we prefer our people to live close so they don’t face long commutes every day.
