Head of Corporate Communications

We are looking for someone who is ready to lead that team to deliver high quality, strategic media and reputation management for SBS, as well as the effective delivery of all external and internal communications functions.

About the role

This is a full-time role in the diverse and collaborative Corporate Affairs Division, whose broader purpose is to manage SBS’s reputation and engagement with a range of key stakeholders. The position reports into the Director of Corporate Affairs and is based in SBS Sydney office.

This role is all about stakeholder management, leadership and strategic thinking: you’ll be leading a team responsible for planning and executing an effective and holistic communications strategy which supports delivery of the SBS Strategic Plan.

An essential part of the position is to build and maintain strong relationships with mainstream, trade and community media outlets, and identifying and effectively managing issues both proactively and reactively. This role also exists to provide strategic and trusted advice to the SBS Board, Managing Director and Executive, and lead key reputational moments such as the Annual Report, and the Parliamentary Showcase.

About you

We’re after someone with great judgement, a solutions-focused attitude, leadership skills and a commitment to the SBS Purpose.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in successfully leading a corporate communications function or significant projects, with at least 8 years’ work experience in the field. Since this role is all about building and maintaining relationships, it’s crucial that you have an ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with stakeholders at all levels. You’ll also be working closely with a range of different areas at SBS so an ability to build constructive working relationships quickly is important.

You will need highly developed writing skills with demonstrated experience writing effective communications for a range of purposes and audiences. Equally as important, you will need experience in managing a team, with a passion for coaching and mentoring. Experience at a media organisation would be an advantage but is not essential.
