Media & Communications Officer

Not-for-profit, member-based health organisation located in Sydney
Part-time 22.5 hours per week, 12-month fixed-term contract
Media, communications, campaigns & engagement

About us

The Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM) is a professional, not-for-profit, member-based organisation. It supports its members, sector partners and collaborators to generate knowledge and action in clinical management and research, education, policy and advocacy in Australasia and internationally.

About you

ASHM is looking for a sharp, self-motivated critical thinker—a media relations specialist with a decent generalist comms skillset. You’ll be planning and executing media campaigns and other external engagement campaigns, so an ability to react quickly and think in a sophisticated manner about the political and media landscapes relating to health and medicine in Australia and the region is a must. Even better if you’ve worked on campaigns relating to HIV, hepatitis and sexual health, and the communities most affected.

The Media & Communications Officer reports to the Media & Communications Manager and has responsibility for:

Developing and implementing communications plans and media campaigns relating to ASHM’s events, programs and services
Generating and responding to opportunities for media, sector and government engagement in line with ASHM’s strategic goals
Managing key relationships with stakeholders in media, government and the HIV, viral hepatitis and sexual health sector to facilitate increased engagement
Conducting communications and marketing activities relating to the promotion of ASHM, its programs and services
Supporting the overall objectives and activities of the ASHM Communications Strategy

Candidates must have a tertiary qualification in media, communications or marketing OR equivalent work experience, and at least two years’ work experience in a similar role.

With your well-developed media engagement skills and demonstrated experience in managing strategic engagement campaigns, you will be confident in clearly and concisely summarising and expressing complex ideas, with the ability to deal professionally with people at all levels. Working in a team environment, you will have excellent time management skills and attention to detail.

Benefits

ASHM provides a flexible and supportive working environment. Key benefits include time off in lieu, flexible working hours, leave loading, 10% superannuation and access to non-taxable fringe benefit salary packaging options.

Apply

Applications close 10.00pm on Friday, 22 March 2019.

Please note ASHM will review applications as they are received, so please apply as soon as possible.

If you are successful in gaining an interview, a writing task will be assigned as part of the interview process.
