Media & Public Affairs Officer

ASHM is looking for an experienced media engagement professional with experience in issues management and public policy-related campaigns.

You’ll be planning and executing media campaigns and other public engagement activities, so an ability to react quickly and think in a sophisticated manner about the political and media landscapes relating to health and medicine in Australia and the region is a must. Even better if you have experience relating to HIV, hepatitis and sexual health.

The Media and Public Affairs Officer reports to the Media and Communications Manager and has responsibility for:

• Coordinating media and public engagement campaigns relating to ASHM’s policy priorities, events, programs and services
• Generating and responding to opportunities for media, sector and government engagement in line with ASHM’s strategic goals
• Utilising key opportunities for public engagement to support and drive ASHM’s strategic priorities, including media engagement, sector engagement, speechwriting and public statements
• Coordinating ASHM’s public responses to key sector and policy issues in collaboration with internal stakeholders
• Managing key relationships with stakeholders in media, government and the HIV, viral hepatitis and sexual health sector to facilitate increased engagement
• Conducting communications and marketing activities relating to the promotion of ASHM, its programs and services
• Supporting the overall objectives and activities of the ASHM Communications Strategy

Candidates must have a tertiary qualification in media, PR or public affairs OR equivalent work experience, and at least four years’ relevant work experience.

With your well-developed media engagement skills and demonstrated experience in managing strategic engagement campaigns, you will be confident in clearly and concisely summarising and expressing complex ideas, with the ability to deal professionally with people at all levels. Working in a team environment, you will have excellent time management skills and attention to detail.

ASHM provides a flexible and supportive working environment. Key benefits include time off in lieu, flexible working hours, leave loading, 10% superannuation and access to non-taxable fringe benefit salary packaging options.
