Product Design Research Lead

The role sits within the Audience Insights team in the Publishing division of Nine. Nine Publishing is responsible for the metro mastheads (SMH, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Brisbane Times and WA Today) websites, apps and newspapers; the life media portfolio such as Traveller and Good Food; and the nine.com.au and 9NOW video streaming products.

Product design researchers play a key role in the Product team, making a substantial and significant contribution to product and design strategy for key Nine digital brands, including exploration of new areas of opportunity. Product design researchers are experts in research, with a mixed methods orientation and particularly strong background in qualitative techniques.

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to;

● Interpret insights from mixed methods (qual, quant, analytics, experimentation) but with a focus on using qualitative techniques to identify target markets, key human behaviours and unmet needs, areas of opportunity, and contextual factors for product/service strategy design and implementation
● Execute qualitative research activities, and/or work with in-house quant researchers and analysts or vendors to fulfill research requirements as necessary
● Problem-space exploration, concept/prototype testing,and UX testing to address key challenges in strategic product design processes

As our preferred candidate, you will possess;

● Expertise in end to end conduct of qualitative research for product design and strategy
● 3+ years experience in product design research roles
● Demonstrated competence and experience in mixed-methods research, including fundamentals of qualitative, quantitative, analytics, and experimentation approaches with deep expertise in qualitative methods
● Proven ability to turn research results into actionable insights, delivered with clarity and packaged into compelling stories
● Excellent organisational skills (project management)
● Strong analytical-thinking and numeracy, and excellent attention to detail

The role could be F/T or 4 days per week for the right candidate.
