Production Assistant (short-term contract)

Newtheatricals is a theatrical producer with offices in Sydney and New York. Our production of Come From Away opens in Melbourne at the Comedy Theatre in July 2019.

The Production Assistant will join the Newtheatricals team for a short-term contract in Melbourne, reporting to the Associate Producer, and Company and Stage Management. This is a unique opportunity to learn about commercial theatrical producing, working with the Producers/General Managers and the Company and Stage Management teams in the rehearsal room and theatre in the lead up to the Opening of Come from Away.

Applicants should be experienced and highly proficient in all areas of general office operations and production and be self-motivated. They should be able to work cohesively as part of a team as well as independently. To be successful in this role, the Production Assistant will need exceptional time management skills and thrive meeting deadlines in a busy office environment and dynamic business. The successful applicant also needs to have a full Australian Drivers Licence, as they will be required to drive a van regularly.

This role involves administrative tasks associated with the running a production and general management office.

The scope of this position includes:
• Driving the international creative team between company accommodation and rehearsals for the rehearsal period.
• Airport meet and greets for international creative team.
• General production support for Company and Stage Management.
• Office administration
• Assisting with ticketing processing for preview performances
• Assistance in booking meeting rooms and function spaces for events.
• Support for marketing, ticketing and publicity teams on all productions.
• Assisting with programme and Opening Night collateral.

Key selection criteria:
• At least 12 months experience in administrative/production roles in ideally in the theatrical/live entertainment industry.
• An understanding of the theatre and performing arts industry, as a “business”.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing demands, set priorities and work to tight deadlines, must have exceptional time management skills.
• Exceptional organisational skills with strong attention to detail
• Be highly motivated, resourceful and self-driven
• A team player within a small group as well as the ability to work autonomously.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel are a must
• Understanding of importance of organisation procedures and filing protocol, and an ability to manage a filing system.
• Applicants should have successfully completed tertiary education in relevant areas such as theatre, production and/or communications.
• Applicants must be Melbourne based and have a full Australian drivers’ licence.
• If traditional hours of work are a requirement – please do not apply. Due to the nature of theatre, working hours will vary and extend into the evening.

Contract term: on or about Monday 13 May, 2019 – 21 July 2019 (10 weeks).

Salary: Subject to experience. Weekly salary based on a 6 day week.
