Social Media Producer – Sports

The Sport Social Media Producer will support the Social Strategy Manager in driving Yahoo Australia’s social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, creating, packaging and identifying content for social distribution. The role will assist the Yahoo Sport Australia editorial team on a daily basis, producing content for our social channels and executing the social media strategy.

The successful applicant should be a huge sports fan and have prior experience in a social media-led role. Experience using social media to break news stories, cover live sporting events and building social media communities is also preferable. The candidate should be an expert at using analytics tools to track performance and social media trends, and be able to use these insights to inform the social strategy. . The applicant should also have exceptional photo and video editing skills, be able to make quick decisions in a fast-paced news environment, be highly motivated, excited by social and digital media, technically proficient, and be a news junkie.

What YOU Will Do:
• Manage Yahoo Sport Australia’s social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
• Ensure Yahoo Sport Australia hits traffic targets by maximising social referrals to our network.
• Identify the best Yahoo Sport content, from Australia and overseas, for social distribution.
• Confidently use tools such as Facebook Ads Manager to boost and sponsor posts to drive link clicks and engagement.
• Stay across breaking sport news, particularly in relation to Australian and US codes.
• Regularly monitor changing social algorithms and audiences and make strategy recommendations.
• Create engaging video and graphics content for social media, designed to drive engagement, reach and referrals.
• Actively grow Yahoo Sport Australia’s social audience across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
• Engage communities across multiple platforms.
• Engage with contributors and influencers to increase brand awareness and social followers.
• Work with global Verizon Media teams to share and crosspost content to maximise our reach.
• Monitor social media for interesting posts by athletes, teams and sport organisations that would resonate with our audience.

A Lot About You
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a social media role.
• Expert knowledge of Australian and US sport codes
• Outstanding command of the English language
• Strong news judgement
• Solid understanding of social media platforms and analysing data
• Exceptional written and communication skills
• An eye for detail and strong understanding of social media best practices
• Understanding of the legal aspects of journalism
• Experience in image optimisation (Photoshop, creating GIFs)
• Video editing skills
• Experience with Facebook Ads Manager
• Experience with community management
• Familiar with analytics tools
