Live Life + Travel Expo ad censured for appearing to breach Australian road rules

Turnstyles Exhibitions and Events’ Live Life + Travel Expo has had its ad banned for breaching the Australian road rules by showing a woman standing up in a car with half her body through the sunroof.

The ad features a woman standing with her arms and upper body outside the sunroof of a moving car, which a complaint labelled as “dangerous” and “potentially distracting”.

“Woman standing up in a car with her top half of her body through the sunroof and her arms stretched out without a seat belt on while car is traveling down a public road,” another complaint said.

Turnstyles Exhibitions and Events said the scene with the woman half outside the vehicle was purchased from American stock photography stock company, Shutterstock.

The advertiser said the aim of the ad was to “express a sense of freedom” and not promote unsafe road behaviour.

Ad Standards said the ad is “clearly” a breach of the Australian road rules and upheld the complaints.
