Masterchef semi-final pulls 1.389m audience but The Voice wins the night with 1.472m

Last night’s Masterchef semi-final managed a metro audience of 1.389m but could not quite topple Nine’s resurgent singing show The Voice which got 1.472m according to preliminary OzTam ratings.

The Ten reality cooking show, which saw contestant Jessica Arnott eliminated ahead of tonight’s final was was up on last week’s 1.044m viewers and was the top rating show across the key demographics.

Both Nine and Seven lost audiences to Ten, with The Voice down 66,000 metro viewers on last week while on Seven’s Dancing with the Stars was down 68,000 viewers on its debut with 710,000. 

However, last week’s TV ratings numbers were also influenced by the Ashes on Gem which was not on last night.

In the news stakes Nine won with 1.413m viewers in 6pm news bulletin followed by 1.303m for Seven.

Meanwhile in current affairs 60 Minutes, which was on at 9pm, drew 845,000 while Seven newsreader Chris Bath’s final outing hosting Sunday Night drew 626,000 viewers in the 9.30pm slot.

Over on the ABC its 7pm news bulletin was up more than 108,000 viewers, likely on the back of the weekend’s Labor conference, with an audience of 881,000.

The lead-in boosted the audience for UK renovation show Grand Designs which was also up 83,000 viewers on last week, with an audience of 821,000.

In sport yesterday morning’s Rugby Championship match where the Wallabies comfortably beat Argentina had 128,000 viewers on Ten, with 131,000 national viewers on Fox Sports.

In the evening SBS drew 154,000 viewers for the Tour De France review show ahead of the procession into Paris.

In share on the main channels Nine had highest share with 24.5 per cent, followed by 17.9 per cent for Ten and 17.1 per cent for Seven.
