Former journalist, communications expert and auto industry commentator, Kurt McGuiness, has been telling tales his entire career; having worked on iconic media brands including Top Gear, FHM and Empire, and spending close to a decade as Volkswagen Group Australia’s corporate storyteller.

Now, having recently launched his own ‘un-agency’, PRIMAL Storytelling, McGuiness and his team of creatives develop multi-platform content and experiences for PRIMAL’s clients that include sports car and lifestyle brand, CUPRA, Australia’s Electric Vehicle Council and cult footwear label, Lusso Cloud. Central to PRIMAL’s approach to storytelling is McGuiness’s own personal philosophy of sustainability and ‘The Rule of Three’, which focuses on extracting maximum impact from the smallest possible footprint.

As the size and influence of traditional media continues to decline, McGuiness relies on his TV and publishing experience to find new, engaging ways to reach customers and fans. Whether it’s racing mountain bikers to afternoon tea in a luxury SUV, trekking with sled dogs to explain how all-wheel-drive works, or staging a late-night rooftop football match with some of Australia’s hottest players, McGuiness continues to push the envelope for what is possible with owned and earned media, whether the old guard like it or not.

Adam Williams

Head of Audio Product & Innovation, ARN

Hi. Yes… I’m talking directly to you, because who wants to write about themselves in the third person, right?  And we all write our own bio’s anyway, so this is me being a bit more transparent.

As you’ll soon discover, I love talking about the topics I’m passionate about.  For brevity, let’s limit that list to audio, branding, advertising, creativity, innovation, differentiation and consumer psychology.

I’m less a fan of talking about myself, however, but this isn’t the time for modesty.

It’s just occurred to me – right this very second – that I’ve had a seriously fun career to this point, working across music, film, telco’s, finance and media.  I’ve played in bands, tour-managed others, worked on hit movies, and with sports teams.

I’ve done corporate speaking in 5 countries, and have studied at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Kellogg and the London Business School.

Not bad for a guy who doesn’t like talking about himself, huh?

In the last couple of years, as Head of Audio Product and Innovation for ARN, I’ve been responsible for creating the world-first and award-winning Dynamic Audio product for broadcast radio, launched the Australian-first In-Game Audio advertising platform, and continue to develop our potentially game-changing Interactive Audio product.

I’m looking forward to presenting with Dr Shannon Bosshard at Mumbrella 360, and if you see me around, come and say hello…  I’m the guy who looks about 10 years older than his photo.

Phillipa Roberts

Co-Founder and Director, PLH Research

Philippa Roberts is the co-author of ‘Brandsplaining: why marketing is still sexist and how to fix it’ published by Penguin last year. https://amzn.to/2VfN8fz

The book - described by Penguin as a cross between Invisible Women and Ogilvy on Advertising – is based on 15 years of market research with female audiences.

It examines how and why sexist tropes continue to dominate, the strengths and failings of ‘fempowerment’ communications, and the ‘sneaky sexism’ that now characterizes much of modern marketing. The authors then propose a set of ten innovative principles – built out of their research – to create marketing that is fresh, exciting and, at last, sexism free.

Described by Dr Aarathi Prasad as “an outrageously important book. Erudite, funny and deeply engaging” Brandsplaining has been an Amazon Bestseller since its launch.

Philippa is also the co founder and director of the research agency PLH: the UK’s leading research consultancy specializing in female audiences.
