Nine’s The Briefcase audience continues to tumble but Love Child boosts audience

Nine’s troubled ‘poverty porn’ show The Briefcase has continued to struggle in a later time slot, with the show pulling in 303,000 metro viewers at 9:40pm last night.

Nine moved the show to the later time slot from its original position at 7:30pm after poor performances for the first two episodes.

The show is now down 60% down on its launch audience of 748,000.

Nine’s changes to programming saw 20 to One moved from Tuesday night to the empty 7:30pm slot on Monday evening. Last night the show grabbed 659,000, slightly down on last week’s Tuesday night audience of 683,000.

Local drama series Love Child boosted its audience on last week, growing from 698,000 to 726,000.

Despite the decline in audience in the competitive 7:30pm timeslot, Nine managed to win the night with an audience share of 18.1% ahead of Seven’s share of 17%. Ten claimed third place with a share of 16.8% while ABC was not too far behind with a share of 16.%.

However, when secondary channels are accounted for the Seven Network won the night with a total audience share of 26.9%, ahead of Nine’s total share of 24.6%.

Ten’s Masterchef, which aired at 7:30pm, was the most-watched non-news program of the evening, pulling in a metro audience of 1.31m, up on last week’s audience of 1.1m.

It easily out-rated Seven’s Highway Patrol, which was watched by 736,000.

Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention?, which went up against Nine’s Love Child at 8:40pm, grabbed 803,000 viewers, slightly down on last week’s audience of 830,000.

Masterchef and Have You Been Paying Attention? were the most-watched two programs across the key advertising demographics  of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

In sport, Seven’s broadcast of Wimbledon on 7Two grabbed 267,000 metro viewers at 8:30pm.

In the news hour, Nine News at 6:00pm was watched by 1.230m, dipping to 1.186m from 6:30pm while Seven News pulled in 1.224m from 6:00pm, sliding to 1.107m from 6:30pm.

Nine’s A Current Affair, which aired at 7:00pm, was watched by 999,000.

In breakfast TV, Seven’s Sunrise pulled in 302,000 but was out-rated by Nine’s Today, which had 318,000 metro viewers.

On the ABC, 7.30 had an audience of 890,000, Australian Story (8:00pm) pulled in 762,000, Four Corners (8:30pm) grabbed 705,000, Media Watch (9:20pm) drew an audience of 702,000 and Q&A (9:30pm) was watched by 676,000.
