Qantas launches new iteration of Feels Like Home via The Monkeys

Following the news that CEO Alan Joyce will be stepping down, Qantas, Australia’s national airline, has returned to its nostalgic brand platform Feels Like Home in a new heartwarming campaign from The Monkeys.

The platform was first launched by Qantas in 2014 to highlight how the carrier brings people together.

In this latest iteration, a mother is reunited with her adult son for her 60th birthday. The ad depicts the real story of the mother of four who has been separated from her Japan-based son since Covid. The footage used for the spot is real, highlighting the moment the son surprised his mother and the pair embrace in a long-overdue hug.

The story is told against the musical backdrop of Randy Newman’s Feels Like Home, sung by Australian singer Martha Marlow, who also featured in the original iteration.

Petra Perry, Qantas Group chief marketing officer, said: “Connecting people is at the heart of what we do and the Feels Like Home series captures the emotion and memories that Australians associate with coming home with Qantas.

“This ad series is all about real stories, real people and real connections and that’s why they can tug at the heartstrings, because the reactions are real. In this latest version, watching the Mum react to seeing her son for the first time in four years, is real and authentic, she’s not acting.”

The campaign is timed with Mothers Day, with the 60 second spot launching on 14 May across TV, cinema, video and outdoor channels, running until the end of June.

The Monkeys’ executive creative director Barbara Humphries: “We’re proud to work with Qantas on the next instalment of this long running campaign reuniting Australians. With the iconic brand back to its best, hopping on a Qantas plane really does feel like home, again. We hope this will see more folks booking flights and making loved ones teary for many months to come.”
