Rakuten Advertising appoints Dentsu’s Stuart McLennan as senior vice president, APAC

Stuart McLennan, who previously spent almost 10 years at Dentsu Aegis Network across Asia and the UK, has become senior vice president of APAC at Rakuten Advertising.

The role at the media, advertising technology and consumer insights company was meant to involve McLennan splitting his time between Sydney and Singapore, but due to travel restrictions associated with COVID-19, he will be based in Singapore for the foreseeable future.

As APAC senior vice president, McLennan will lead the business across the region, including Australia and New Zealand. As part of the international leadership team, he will report to Anthony Capano, managing director of international.

“Stuart is an exceptional leader, something demonstrated admirably by his global success within the industry,” Capano said.

“Rakuten Advertising continues to see exceptional growth across the APAC region, based on a combination of our unique assets and outstanding team. Hiring someone of Stuart’s calibre at this time is a great demonstration of our desire to continue this momentum, and focus on delivering growth for our customers.”

Most recently, McLennan spent 10 months as APAC media and performance lead at Dentsu Aegis Network, based in Singapore, as part of his almost-decade with the holding company. Almost nine years of that was with iProspect, where he started out as account director – SEO in 2010 and climbed the ranks to become regional head of commercials and operations for APAC.

McLellan said Rakuten Advertising is an extraordinary business.

“Leading the APAC team is a superb chance to build upon the incredible foundations laid by the team across the region by doing what I love most: leadership and development, client relationship building and business growth,” he said.

Recently, Rakuten Advertising expanded and rebranded, involving bringing together its affiliate network, programmatic retargeting and prospecting technology.
