Rich couple looks to ‘adopt’ child and donate $170k to first home in new campaign
A rich couple with no children is looking to ‘adopt’ a first home buyer and give $170,000 of their wealth as a home deposit, in a new campaign for display home and house design company, Porter Davis.
Created by Accenture’s The Monkeys, ‘The Rich Parents You Never Had’ content series sees Aisha and Stu McFernlayson – who own 11 properties – on the hunt for someone they can ‘adopt’ and ‘give’ ‘a smart living home deposit to.
The series seeks to drive awareness of Porter’s new Smart Living offering and poke fun at the willingness of young Australians to lean on the ‘bank of mum and dad’.
It is coupled with a competition, which could see the winners take home $170,000 for a Porter Davis Smart Living Home.
The Monkeys’ group content director, Lee Lowndes, said the campaign is a “new take” on a promotional giveaway.
“In a media environment where we’re constantly hearing about the challenges for first home buyers, who wouldn’t wish for some generous rich parents to contribute $170k to a new house?” Lowdnes said.
Porter Davis’ general manager for digital and marketing Shaun Patterson said the campaign seeks to build awareness of the brand within the first-home buying market.
“The campaign resonates with the barriers Victorian first home buyers are facing in purchasing their dream home in a unique and irreverent tone. We are thrilled with the collaborative partnership that has formed with The Monkeys. Their strategic rigour and agility to deliver our latest campaign is to be commended,” he said.
The campaign was directed by Matthew Saville whose credits include Josh Thomas’ Please Like Me and Chris Lilley’s We Can Be Heroes.

170k is a great hook… but for everyone except the winner, isn’t this gonna get everyone thinking that’s the magic number for a deposit? It’s not the case. Talk about scaring off first home buyers……..
They haven’t thought about longevity. Only a cool prize for 1 winner.

What a brilliant way to get a first home builder database. Kudos to all involved.
