RMIT’s ‘Thinking in a crisis 101’ for PR

RMIT will offer a new short course for communications and PR workers on thinking in a crisis.

The announcement:

RMIT University is offering a new short course to address current thinking in crisis communications, as part of the PR Master Class series.

The crisis communications short course has been specifically tailored to crisis management in a publicly-social world, where people interact more often and more widely using digital media.

Presented by top crisis communications professional Allan Briggs, the one-day course is running on Tuesday, 14 May, and Tuesday, 17 September.

Mr Briggs, Managing Director of Briggs Communications, said: “The increasing presence of social media in our personal and professional environment means that today’s society is more transparent than ever before.

“A social media crisis can fatally damage brands and reputations so organisations and individuals need robust methods to prepare for and respond to such a crisis.

“Sound crisis preparation does not eliminate risks altogether, but it improves an organisation or individual’s crisis resilience, placing them in the best possible position to respond and recover from a critical event.”

Sally Parrott, Program Manager, School of Business TAFE, said the new course content was in keeping with societal demands and current thinking.

“We source industry experts such as Allan Briggs to deliver our courses so we achieve high-quality learning outcomes,” Ms Parrott said.

“These experts bring a unique combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.”

Mr Briggs has more than 20 years’ of crisis experience assisting government, corporations and individuals with crisis management planning and response.

The RMIT PR Master Class series consists of a range of specialist training courses for professional communicators and is supported by the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA).
