Seven snatches Modern Family from Ten

Seven has confirmed that it has seized the rights to air new episodes of Modern Family.

The US sitcom was previously one of Ten’s most reliable ratings drivers, before the broadcaster’s insolvency saw the News Corp aligned Fox Studios cancel its output deal back in October.

Last month, Seven cherrypicked the rights to air Fox shows including The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother and M*A*S*H. But there was no word at the time on whether Seven would also pick up Modern Family.

However, in a comment that went unreported on the day, Seven West Media boss Tim Worner revealed during the company’s six monthly update to investors on Tuesday that the broadcaster has indeed picked up Modern Family.

Worner: Guaranteed boost in demographic performance

He told them: “Our new content deal with 21st Century Fox brings a mix of iconic and proven series. Shows like The Simpsons, M*A*S*H and How I Met Your Mother will add to the best of their new programming. I am confirming today that new Modern Family will be on Seven. This all adds up to a guaranteed boost in our demographic performance year on year.”

Seven will also stream the Fox content on its digital catchup service 7plus.
