Michael Branagh exits Suncorp to lead global marketing for Queensland tourism

Suncorp’s head of brand planning and digital, Michael Branagh, has transitioned to a new executive role with Tourism and Events Queensland.

Branagh previously worked with Tourism Queensland during his time at SapientNitro (then known as Cummins Nitro) when the agency launched the multi award winning Best Job in the World campaign.

Branagh – who was managing director of Cummins Nitro in 2007, before becoming national managing director of SapientNitro in September 2009 and then managing director global clients in January 2011 – says on LinkedIn a key achievement during his time with the agency was his stewardship of the Best Job in the World campaign which is “now recognised as the most awarded marketing campaign of all time and a true ‘game changer'”.

Branagh will now take on the role of group executive – global marketing for the tourism body.

Most recently, he has been with Suncorp’s Brisbane division where he was in charge of brand portfolio strategy, marketing planning and performance management along with digital marketing and agency and media partnerships.

Branagh also previously worked at Nine Entertainment Co as director of its integrated offering Powered, before being promoted to group marketing director.

The move comes just four months after Suncorp consolidated its creative and media agency arrangements, with Publicis Groupe appointed to create a bespoke model to work on the repositioning of the Suncorp brand.

Back in March, Tourism and Events Queensland put its media strategy and planning account up for pitch, according to documents on the Queensland government website. UM Brisbane currently handles Tourism and Events Queensland strategy, having won the account in February 2014.
