Seven WA boss John Driscoll departs after just eight months
John Driscoll, the boss of Seven West Media’s extensive Western Australian operation, has left the business after less than a year.
Driscoll took the helm at SWM in September after spending most of his career at WA’s Marketforce agency. He replaced Chris Wharton who moved into retirement.
Driscoll’s extensive portfolio included Seven’s TV assets, which lead the local ratings, along with The West Australian and Sunday Times newspapers.
According to the announcement from Seven, Driscoll was leaving for family reasons.
The company says it will announce a successor in the next few days.
The announcement:
Seven West Media (ASX: SWM) today announced that John Driscoll has stepped down from the position of CEO Seven West Media WA.
SWM Chairman Kerry Stokes recently discussed with Mr Driscoll new additional responsibilities to the CEO role that would have required extensive travel.
After further consultation and consideration, Mr Driscoll has, for family reasons, decided that he would not be able to accommodate the additional responsibilities.
Mr Stokes reluctantly accepted Mr Driscoll’s decision to step down, on the understanding that this would not preclude Mr Driscoll and Mr Stokes from working together in the future.
Mr Stokes said “I would like to thank John for his services. He has instituted a number of important reforms for our newspapers which will continue to benefit the company after his departure.”
A new leader of Seven West Media WA will be announced early next week.
