Ten revives Celebrity MasterChef after more than a decade

Celebrity MasterChef will return to Ten for just the second time, after first appearing on the network’s content slate in 2009.

The first edition was won by Olympic swimmer Eamon Sullivan, with nearly 1.3 million Aussies tuning in to watch the winner announcement in November, 2009.

Sullivan defeated INXS member Kirk Pengilly and Miss Universe Australia 2009 Rachael Finch in the final.

Judges Melissa Leong, Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo

The new edition of Celebrity MasterChef will air on Channel 10 and 10 Play on demand, with Ten yet to reveal an air date.

Ten confirmed that Melissa Leong, Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo – who are midway through their second season of MasterChef at present – will be the judges of the celebrity edition.

“We’ve searched high and low for some of the country’s top celebrities with a passion for food, and are ready for their big break in the MasterChef kitchen. They may be the best in their business, but will they be the best in our kitchen?” Ten teased.

Ten also revealed that the celebrity contestants will include a legendary sports person, an Aussie icon and a famous actor.

Allen said: “Melissa, Jock and I can’t wait to swing open the doors to the MasterChef kitchen and welcome these famous faces.

“It’ll be a multi-talented group who step into the kitchen, but will they be at the top of their cooking game?”

Other contestants to appear on the first edition in 2009 included musician Alex Lloyd, sports starts Simon Katich and Ryan O’Keefe, fashion designer Alex Perry, politician Anna Bligh, and media personalities George Negus, Wendy Harmer, Indira Naidoo and Peter FitzSimonds.

The series will once again be produced by Endemol Shine Australia.
