The Voice pulls 1.267m as Nine has combined share of 36 per cent on the back of The Ashes

Screen Shot 2015-08-24 at 9.45.59 amLast night’s episode of reality singing show The Voice drew 1.267m metropolitan viewers to be the most watched non-news program of Sunday night.

The result saw Nine’s franchise shed 114,000 viewers on last week but came on a night when the TV Network posted an overall audience share of 36.6 per cent on the back of The Ashes coverage on Gem.

The Ashes, played at The Kennington Oval in London, drew 546,000 viewers last night for the first session from 7.30pm to 10pm as the Aussies edged towards victory in the match, up on Saturday night where it drew 465,000 and Friday night’s coverage which had 502,000 viewers.

However a three hour rain delay meant that audience dwindled to 160,000 when the Aussies claimed the last two wickets in the afternoon session after midnight.

Over on Seven Sunday Night drew 1.12m viewers at 7pm for a story on Oscar Pistorius’s release being overturned while Dancing with the Stars was down marginally, shedding 9,000 viewers, with an audience of 727,000 viewers.

Ten’s highest rating show of the night was a repeat of Gold Coast Cops at 7pm which drew 524,000 viewers while on the ABC building and renovation show Grand Designs drew 836,000 viewers.

In the news ratings Nine’s one hour Sunday news bulletin drew 1.319m viewers compared with 1.283m for Seven.

60 minutes drew 747,000 viewers at 9pm while Seven’s premiere of a documentary celebrating 20 years of Pacific Magazines title Marie Claire called Under The Covers at 10pm pulled 252,000 viewers.

In terms of main channel audience share drew 24.6 per cent while sister station had 7.7 per cent.  Seven had 19.7 per cent, the ABC had 12.4 per cent and Ten had 10 per cent.
