Wicked Campers humiliates women with van about childbirth

Infamous rental van company Wicked Campers has had another one of its vans banned by the ad watchdog, this time for humiliating women.

The ad, which was registered in Queensland, said “you’re not a woman until humans come out of your vagina and trample on your dreams”.

Wicked Campers has had three seperate vans banned

Posting to Ad Standards, a complaint said the van was “offensive, degrading and just not right”.

The advertising watchdog said the ad discriminates against and vilifies women as it implies that a female is not a woman until she has had a child by vaginal birth.

The van is “humiliating to women, including those that have had a caesarean delivery, do not have children, are unable to have children, or are transgender,” the board added.

In 2017 the Queensland Government passed a law to deregister Wicked Campers vans that refuse to remove text and images which are in breach of the Advertisers Code of Ethics (the Code), within 14 days.

While Wicked Campers did not provide a response, Ad Standards said it was working with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The controversial advertiser has also had another two ads banned for using inappropriate language and failing to treat the issue of sex, sexuality and nudity with sensitivity.

One van, which said “would a man know his way around a woman’s clitoris….even if he had a GPS?, was deemed inappropriate to a large audience which would include children, and subsequently upheld.

Meanwhile a third van, which said “let’s play a game of fuck-off, you go first”, was also banned from the roads for using strong and inappropriate language.

Once again Wicked Campers did not provide a response.
