YouGov has acquired local opinion polling firm Galaxy Research with David Briggs, Galaxy’s founder and Manager Director, to lead the rebranded YouGov Galaxy.

Galaxy, which was Briggs founded in 2004, is best known for managing The Australian’s political survey, Newspoll,  while YouGov, which is based in the UK, launched its Australian operations two years ago. The combined company will have a staff of 11.

David Briggs will lead the combined YouGov Galaxy

“Becoming part of YouGov gives Galaxy access to an enviable global profile, a high-quality proprietary panel and operating platform. We look forward to working together to realise our combined ambitions,” said Biggs in a media statement.

Stephan Shakespeare, CEO of YouGov, added: “Galaxy was an obvious fit for the YouGov Group. This acquisition increases our presence in Australia which is a significant market and one which is strategically important to our international clients.”
