Kris Madden

Kris is an award-winning journalist, media advisor and communications strategist specialising in eco and sustainable tourism.
Her travels have taken her to more than 50 countries and she is available to write on a range of travel related matters.

She is the founder of Eco Media Group, a team of writers and communicators who are passionate about travel and want to preserve and benefit the world’s most beautiful and sacred places through responsible tourism reporting.

She is currently President of the Australian Society of Travel Writers. Her journalism accolades include: Travel Writer of the Year Trade/Industry 2007 – Australian Society of Travel Writers; Best International Story 2007 – Australian Society of Travel Writers; Finalist Best Travel Writer 2009 – Australian Federation of Travel Agents National Tourism Industry Awards; Finalist Travel Writer of the Year Trade/Industry 2009 – Australian Society of Travel Writers; and Finalist Best Responsible Tourism Story 2009 – Australian Society of Travel Writers Travel Journalism Awards for Excellence.

When not indulging her passion for travel to the world’s most far-flung places, Kris is involved in marine mammal research and conservation. She has worked with government and industry on creating legislation for the sustainable development of whale-watching in Australia and the South-Pacific and conservation in Australian national parks and protected areas. She is also a contributor to a number of books, including Lonely Planet’s ‘Code Green – Trips of a lifetime that won’t cost the Earth’ and the National Geographic Adventure Atlas of Australia. In 2009 she was listed in ‘Who’s Who of Australian Women’.
