Imagine.
A copywriter whose first language isn’t English.
That’s me.
I started as a junior at Ogilvy Malaysia. There, we wrote Manglish. Later, when I moved to Singapore, there, we wrote Singlish.
So, when I first moved to Australia, I thought there was no more a true blue Aussie ad man to work for than Singo.
After a few years at agencies like Ogilvy Sydney and Melbourne and then Cummins & Partners Melbourne, I’m happy to say that it wasn’t long before I learnt how to sound like a real ute-driving, beer-guzzling, sport-loving, thong-wearing Aussie (through my writing, of course).
Now, after more than a decade here, I’ve been responsible for some of Australia’s iconic brand campaigns.
And while English may still be my second language,
Australian is now my first.
Occasionally I escape back to Asia to freelance. I think this gives me a broad and unique regional perspective that I can pull out on-demand, when it’s needed.
