Disrupting democracy, the structural power of the blockchain : Climate, Politics Finance, and the rule of law

We have all heard about Cryptocurrency, the flashy, attention seeking child of the distributed ledger, so we thought it was high time to take a look at the structure behind the hype. It has been argued that the blockchain is as big a disruptive technology as the internet itself, so in our latest event on the fascinating subject area, Academy Xi is exploring how the technology is changing some of our society’s fundamental structures.

The panel will explore environmental case studies, to see how the trust and security of the blockchain can help in the fight against climate change. We will explore the fundamentals of democracy itself with Horizon State, a company that will be only the fifth Australian startup to raise venture capital through an initial coin offering. ICO’s themselves raise significant questions about the state control of capital, and has the potential to break fundamental financial concepts that have remained steady for hundreds of years. The law is also a target of change, as smart contracts underpinned by the blockchain present a dramatic shift in the way business relationships are codified.

Join us to learn more about the technology sweeping through industry and identify how it could be harnessed to solve and improve your own workflows and projects.
