Learn how to shoot and edit quality short videos with your iPhone, iPad or Android device in this one day intensive.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
You will learn all the tips and tricks for professional standard video making: Content includes:
framing, exposure and focus
recording quality sound (the biggest challenge with a mobile device)
effective coverage – shooting sequences that tell a story
editing and uploading from your device – with either iMovie (Apple IOS) or Power Director (Android)
an introduction to the many apps and accessories that are now available to complement this emerging style of filmmaking.

This course is ideal for anyone who wants to make high standard video content on their mobile device, and it’s been designed for people with no previous knowledge.
So whether you’re a journalist, blogger or a corporate comms professional – you will come out of this day with the confidence to say “I can make my own videos”.

LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE
This is an introductory course. You do not need any prior experience, but you will need familiarity with your own mobile device’s interface and operating system.
WHAT YOU WILLL NEED
You should bring your own mobile smart device for this course, with a minimum of 8GB storage and most recent operating system installed. Ensure you have backed up your device before the course and ensured there is at least a good amount of storage space on the device.
ABOUT THE TUTOR: GARETH TILLSON
One of AFTRS Open’s most popular tutors, Gareth Tillson has pursued a career in cinematography since he saw the light during a shoot at New York Film Academy in 1998. Graduating from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (MA Cinematography) in 2004 with the AFTRS High Achievement in Cinematography Award, Gareth has since established himself as a freelance cinematographer in Sydney. He shoots shorts, docos, commercials and music clips. His debut feature as cinematographer, LBF, premiered at SxSW Film Festival in 2011 and has played at Perth Revelations and Sydney Film Festivals. He also teaches regularly for AFTRS Open.
