Augmented Businesses: How businesses use Augmented Reality

Explosion of Augmented Reality

Remember the Pokémon GO stage, where millenials paused their Netflix and ventured out into the open world to hunt the elusive Pikachu? That app, based on augmented reality technology, reached $1 billion in six months and became the fastest growing app in history.

While gaming and entertainment have been the largest spaces for augmented reality technologies, there are now other areas that can seek to benefit — proving that this technology is not just a millennial craze.

Outside the Realm of Gaming

Did you know that Augmented Reality is growing faster than Virtual Reality? Augmented Reality has seen a greater development towards more tangible business applications. And Augmented Reality has the potential to enhance the customer’s experience, without taking them away from the physical world. Overlaying the physical world with objects and data allows people to access more information on products and services straight through their smartphone.

For example, Ikea have been using Augmented Reality to help customers visualise what a couch would look like in their living room. Customers can visually see if the couch matches their living room space, and in turn make a more educated guess before purchase.

“80 percent of the information that the brain takes in is visual; so by providing information in a visual medium that also has the spatial nature of augmented reality, you’re giving the brain a very intuitive way of accessing knowledge,” says Gaia Dempsey, cofounder of Augmented Reality company DAQRI.

Augmented Reality Means Business

As a business person, you must wonder how Augmented Reality will impact not only your business, but the businesses around you. How will this technology change the way you interact with customers and develop new products and services?

Learn how your business can be at the forefront of Augmented Reality and hear how other businesses are already using this technology to improve their customers’ experience. Augmented Reality isn’t a game; it’s a business — so don’t get left behind!
