The craft of cinematography is explored by Director of Photography Bryan Mason, whose diverse credits include the Sundance-selected titles 52 Tuesdays, Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure, and this year’s Animals.

SCREEN DIVERSITY: Breaking Barriers & Building Bridges

Join filmmaker guests of the festival and practitioners as they discuss some of the core issues integral to building an inclusive screen industry that reflects, and is enriched by, Australia’s diversity. This year’s panel includes three MIFF Accelerator Lab alumni making their feature debuts at MIFF: John Sheedy (with the MIFF Premiere Fund-supported H is for Happiness, following his multi-awarded short Mrs. McCutcheon); Maziar Lahooti (MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Below); and Hamish Bennett (Bellbird); alongside actor Chris Bunton (Little Monsters and Kairos), producer Lisa Wang (ABC-TV’s Please Like Me and MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Monsieur Mayonnaise), and sales agent Debra Liang (Level-K).

Scott’s previous credits include I Used to Be Normal: A Boyband Fangirl Story and the MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Have You Seen the Listers?

ACTING: Emma Booth & Daisy Axon

Fresh from their roles in MIFF Premiere Fund-supported H is for Happiness, which world premieres at MIFF 2019, Emma Booth and Daisy Axon explore the unique relationship and dynamic between actors and directors. Axon also appears in Judy and Punchat MIFF 2019, while Booth’s extensive screen credits include Extinction, Glitch and an AACTA-winning turn in the Venice-selected Hounds of Love.

PRODUCTION & COSTUME DESIGN: Bethany Ryan & Zohie Castellano
Sunday 11 August, 1:00pm-2:00pm
Fresh from working on MIFF Premiere Fund-supported films Buoyancy and Measure for Measure, production designer Bethany Ryan and costume designer Zohie Castellano explore how the two crafts come together in collaboration with the director to bring the world of the film to life.
