The publishing world isn’t just evolving.

It’s being rewritten, line by line

Economic strain, fragmented audiences, and disruptions to business models driven by the tech platforms and AI. Despite these challenges across the publishing world, there will be winners, and we want you to be among them. Whether your audience is consumers or corporates, publishing strategies must adapt and respond. This isn’t an industry that can afford to be passive. If you’re choosing to hold your ground you need to collaborate, share and learn from your peers, now more than ever before.

At Mumbrella's Publish conference we’ll host provocations, new perspectives, case studies and off-the-record conversations about audience, monetisation models, your tech stack and talent.

For B2C publishers, this is about reclaiming the channel and doing what you do best in a new landscape, with a focus on relevance, reach, and revenue (before someone else rewrites your value). For the B2B sector, it’s about remaining credible in a flood of auto-generated content, and proving your worth to discerning professionals who know the difference between signal and noise.

What both sectors have in common is that they will win by building communities, and authentically connecting them in both the digital realm and in the real world. We’re bringing this conference back because we believe it’s time for the publishing community to come together.

The Mumbrella Publish 2025 agenda won’t sugar-coat the situation, but we’re not panicking, either. This is your moment to lead; ask better questions; rethink your assumptions. And to connect with others who aren’t just reacting to change, they’re shaping it, before it shapes us.

Stay tuned for more content updates.

This event is being curated by Mumbrella’s head of curation Cat McGinn, in consultation with industry leaders who will comprise the Mumbrella Publish advisory panel. Anyone wishing to join the advisory or suggest a conference session should contact cat@mumbrella.com.au.

Tim Burrowes,

Founder & Publisher,

Mumbrella Media

“Throughout Mumbrella’s history, we’ve seen ourselves as part of the publishing community, and wanted to play our part in what is our own industry.

That included as members of Publishers Australia when that existed as an industry organisation. After Publishers Australia folded, we took seriously our responsibility in keeping the awards going. Having started as The Bell Awards 29 years ago, evolving into the Publishers Australia Excellence Awards and now the Publish Awards, we treasure this annual opportunity to bring our community together.

That’s why we’re also keen to bring back the Publish conference. Publish has its roots in Magazine Week, which was a partnership between Mumbrella, Publishers Australia and Magazine Publishers of Australia which focused on the glossy end of the market.

The magazine industry bodies may now be gone, but the contribution Mumbrella can still make is to bring the various parts of the publishing community together under one roof.

We’ll be looking to work with all of the emerging industry bodies in the space including the Local and Independent News Association and the Digital Publishers Association, along with anyone who works in the publishing space.

With Mumbrella itself seeing a fresh start in its management this year, the return of the Publish conference in October will be an initial effort which we’d love to rebuild into something bigger in coming years.”
