$200,000 per month for stand-in Fairfax Media boss Greg Hywood

Fairfax Media has revealed that it is paying acting chief executive Greg Hywood $200,000 a month to babysit the company while it seeks to make a permanent appointment.

The company discloses the numbers under ASX rules, saying the maximum term of the contract is six months.

According to the agreement, Hywood will return to the board as a non-executive director after his stint at the helm comes to the end.

However, Hywood remains the favourite to take on the role on a permanent basis following the dramatic departure of boss Brian McCarthy earlier in the month.
