2GB host announces shock departure; Mark Levy replacement revealed

The radio presenter merry-go-round isn’t over in 2024, with yet another popular host making a shock departure announcement.

On Friday, 2GB Drive host, Chris O’Keefe, announced on air that he was wrapping up with the station effective immediately.

In a note sent to staff, seen by Mumbrella, 2GB content manager, Luke Davis, confirmed O’Keefe’s departure.

“While this is a disappointing development for many of us – it’s a decision that has been made entirely by Chris, in consultation with his family,” Davis note read.

“He’s calling time on not only his radio career – but also his journalism career. He has plans to move into the political and media advocacy space in the new year.”

O’Keefe called time on his 2GB stint just hours after Ray Hadley wrapped up his 43-year career with the broadcaster.

O’Keefe took over the Drive slot in 2023 from Jim Wilson, having previously worked as a 9News political reporter and 13 years with Nine total.

Davis’ note continued: “He has been a force to be reckoned with, an incredibly hard worker and a genuine talent that has made an impact in this industry and the broader community. He will be missed by many.”

A new Drive host for 2025 is expected to be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, 2GB has also announced Adam Hawse as the new Wide World of Sports programme host starting this coming Monday, taking over from Mark Levy who will move into Hadley’s slot.

“Adam is a popular member of our Wide World of Sports team as a regular fill-in host and the trusted voice of our afternoon sports news on 2GB,” Davis said.

Adam Hawse

“He boasts an impressive media career spanning more than two decades across radio, podcasting, TV and publishing and will bring all that experience to this new hosting role. ‘Hawsey’ is well-respected and well-connected, and I know our 2GB listeners will love getting their sports fix with him each night!”

Hawse added: “In footy-speak I can’t wait to tackle this new challenge and continue the outstanding work of Mark Levy as host.

“For a guy who’s spent his life either in the grandstand as a fan or holding a microphone at a press conference, I consider it a privilege to be able to share the very latest sports news and opinions with our loyal listeners on this incredible program.

“We won’t be side-stepping any issues and we’ll have plenty of laughs along the way too.”
