SBS World Movies switches to Foxtel on Demand
The SBS World Movies subscription channel will cease to be a stand-alone channel from February and shift to Foxtel On Demand, the broadcaster has announced.
The announcement:
SBS World Movies switches linear channel for dedicated offering on Foxtel On Demand
SBS today announced that from 1 February 2018, the iconic World Movies subscription channel will switch from a Foxtel linear channel to be hosted on Foxtel On Demand, with a weekly movie slot on the pay TV provider’s Foxtel Movies Masterpiece channel.
For more than 22 years, World Movies has showcased the best in international cinema, bringing Australians a diverse selection of award-winning favourites and acclaimed new releases from across the globe, in more than 200 languages.
Hosted as a dedicated film collection on Foxtel On Demand, World Movies will showcase a selection of quality international titles, giving subscribers the freedom to watch at their convenience. World Movies will also continue on Stan, in a renewal of SBS’s agreement with the streaming platform.
Chris Keely, General Manager, SBS Subscription TV said: “SBS is pleased that World Movies will continue as a key film destination on Foxtel On Demand, giving viewers the flexibility to watch some of the best films from across the world anytime, anywhere and on a device of their choice.”
World Movies will move from a linear channel to Foxtel On Demand from 1 February 2018. The World Movies weekly movie slot will air on the Foxtel Movies Masterpiece channel from 3 January 2018.

My FOXTEL package has gone up $12.00 a month from December and now from 1 February one Channel less with World Movies being removed. Pretty punk!!

Another reason to get rid of Foxtel , the quality channels are being dumped – look at what they did to THE ARTS CHANNEL,
cheap videos old ones at that all day , limited and very often repeated content at night !!!!!.

This was the best movie channel on Foxtel, with the best international movies. Being a fan of European movies and always watching this channel, there’s no reason for me to continue paying over $100 a month to subscribe to Foxtel. I’ll switch to Netflix for a fraction of that price.

Seriously considering cancelling Foxtel since they have gotten rid of box office movies and now world movies and changed them to on demand, our internet service isn’t good enough to download movies from on demand to watch.

Time to get rid of foxtel. Keep paying more money for less product. This is typical of Australian business policy. Charge the customer more and give them less of what they are paying for. Pathetic business sense really. No wonder people are switching to Netflix and other similar streaming options.

One channel less and more repeats ,,,,,,,

The stupidity of this decision is beyond comprehension. World movies was undoubtedly the ‘ultimate go to channel’ when all over movie channels are on endless repeat with minimal if any new content. If I come across the Die Hard series I will channel Peter Finch in Network. It was only on Tuesday night that I sat back and enjoyed three hours of World Movies offerings. Now it is all gone.
At least the grocery companies keep the price constant when they reduce the amount offered, but not Foxtel they treat us like morons reducing the content but charging us more for it.
They have for years milked loyal long stay customers by offering amazing low price options to new subscribers but denying those offerings to loyal customers.
The World movies decision is only the second worst decision though. Nothing can top the absolute stupidity of letting the most popular sporting competition in the world – the Premier League – go to Optus … that may go down as the most monumental stuff up in televised sporting history.
As many others have said, seems like time to let Foxtel go and enjoy the numerous streaming offerings available.

Paying high fees and Foxtel has removed a channel that we have watched the most without notice. Shame! Thinking of cancelling subscription and taking up Netflix

World Movies on Foxtel was the signing light. Now it’s GONE.
Time for Foxtel to go at our home!!!!!

Agree – compared to other countries, we are paying big bucks for a service on which the content is diminishing. Can’t wait for Amazon or others to come to Australia – After 15 years of being a loyal customer and nothing in return except for the cost increasing, as a result I will be jumping ship to another provider soon.

The secretive way World Movies has been dumped is the unforgivable aspect of this change. Ads on the channel itself weeks ago would have been good manners and even better corporate P.R. For those of us without internet enabled tv’s the best option is to pay for a new tv and cables via a saving of $90 a month by going with Stan which will have it. Will take time but a clear option. Love Margaret but a couple of hours a week is a very weak PR stunt.

World Movies was the only movie channel I would watch. What a terrible shame. Foxtel say the movies have moved to movies on demand, don’t lie to us. I switched to On Demand the very minute the World Movies ceased and to my surprise nothing. Now, after some digging around find you have to order a new IQ3 box to get access. I will be looking at my options, shame on you Foxtel. Especially since I have been a big supporter for over 2 decades.

Just went to look for World Movies. Why is channel 430 not available ? Must be a technical glich !! I will re check tomorrow. Just a minute they have removed it. When did this happen ? Why was not there a broadcast announcement ? Very poor form. Another nail in the coffin for Foxtel.

I,ve been with fox for over 15 years and instead of getting better it,s getting worse. Why delete world movies ? Because the morons running the packaging are only out to screw you of more money. Fifteen years ago you hardly saw an annoying ad, but now they are as bad as free to air. I will be cancelling fox and going to another provider. You people DO NOT listen.

What is going on behind the scenes here? There must some rationale for what seems to be a monumentally stupid management decision to dump World Movies. Did SBS get too greedy?
Maybe not as it seems to be a general dumbing down trend with Foxtel. Look at the Arts channel and the reduction of movie channels to leave only the absolute dross of Hollywood.
How do you get the faceless men of Foxtel management to listen to subscribers?

I’ve been a extremely loyal Foxtel customer for i don’t know how long (20+ years i guess) How disappointing to find out that World Movies have left the mainstream programming, i don’t recall seeing any notification that World Movies was going!!!, unfortunately there is no value in Foxtel any longer, it’s time for me to say bye bye to Foxtel…..

As above went to 430, no channel.
Change management? Respect for customers? Declining content and quality, outrageous pricing. It’s a fools game.
Will reduce package as much as I can. Only keeping NRL otherwise it would be totally wiped.

One of the few remaining watchable channels on Foxtel and now it’s been reassigned as a pay extra option. Only mindless schlock now available when you pay the standard fee (which is too high anyway).
I’m out for sure, since Foxtel is no longer a meaningful service to me – or the rest of the general public for that matter. In my opinion their license should be pulled and given to some other organization willing to deliver quality programming to the Australian public. Foxtel is now just a moronic polluter of bandwidth!

Foxtel should get educated on customer satisfaction, increasing prices, advertising and losing channels!! Seems to me Foxtel is trying harder to go broke than keep business competitive. Disappointed

this stinks. we have Foxtel through optus. this is the third channel removed and one of my favourites. fees have not come down and services have been reduced. it’s no longer worthed to have cable tv and it’s time accc steps in and take a good look at this

I think you are in breach of contract. Changing the content of the broadcast is not giving me the product I bought.
Besides that the last 12 months has seen repeat after repeat. With a world of movies to select from you have drifted into nothingness. Leaving.

You have just my favourite channel. I used for that channel for over 50% of my watching time. No reason to stay now.

Absolute disgrace, hope u r proud off yourselves. I’ve been watching world movies for over 15yrs, Less channels, more costs..Nothing but greed.Where can I get to watch afl, seeing as foxtel virtually has the menoppoly. Again, greed, greed, greed.

As with all the other comments I am disgusted with Foxtel. We originally signed up 20+ years ago so we wouldn’t have to suffer ads!! World Movies was my favourite viewing and I was also an avid Premier League fan. There is just no point in continuing to subscribe to Foxtel.

I agree. Less for more. World movies was our most watched channel. On demand doesn’t work. We have 3 boxes with the lot. Netfix is looking much better.

Have had Foxtel for more years than I care to remember. First came the adds, followed by an ever increasingly stampede of repeats and general viewing garbage. Kept it on (under protest) because the kids and my wife enjoy some of the old British comedies.
Tomorrow I am buying a smart tv. On Monday I am setting up Netflix and on Tuesday it will be come and get your boxes Foxtel.
