A tiny car fronts Ampol’s latest campaign with Saatchi and Saatchi Australia
A tiny car about to go on a journey.
Transport retailer Ampol has launched a campaign that stars “a tiny wind-up car”, via Saatchi and Saatchi Australia.
The platform builds upon the brand’s 2024 platform “A to Anywhere”. It deploys a 60-second film — produced by creative production business Sedona and and directed by duo Oskar Holmedal and Martin Sjöström, otherwise known as StyleWar — that tracks the miniature car as it embarks on a journey to reunite with its owner, after it was left behind from a car trip. After braving a street construction site, a park, a night-time encounter with an echidna and a river, the vehicle meets its owner at an Ampol station.
“We were excited to figure out how to shrink a Russian arm rig to this little car’s size for fast, dynamic shots,” StyleWar said in a press release.
“Using an in-camera approach that could interact with our talent, the grip and camera team utilised a rickshaw rig with a snorkel lens licking the tarmac to achieve the speed and scale we wanted.”

A bespoke model, the car was “3D printed, hand-painted, and fitted out with moving parts, including working lights, wipers, and a spinning wind-up key”.
Overall, production service company Yippe Ki-Yay built three models for use in different environments: two operated with remote controls, and one as a puppet.
“The ‘A to Anywhere’ platform was first launched in 2024 to unify Ampol’s brand and product story,” Jenny O’Regan, chief brand and customer officer at Ampol, said in the release.
“This new chapter reinforces Ampol as a brand that helps Australians to achieve their ambitions, no matter how big or small, in a way that’s emotive and distinctly Australian.
“That’s what ‘Australia’s Own’ means to us: being a partner for Aussies wherever they go.”
The campaign is expected to play nationwide on social, out-of-home, BVOD and radio channels.
