ABC makes Tim Latham new Media Watch producer

Media WatchABC TV has named Tim Latham as the new executive producer for its Monday night media monitoring show Media Watch, as former executive producer Lin Buckfield departs for “a break” in New York.

Latham, who has been Radio National Breakfast executive producer and with ABC Radio for 15 years, spent the last years on Breakfast with Fran Kelly and has also worked on shows such as Radio National’s Background Briefing.

Of his appointment, Latham said: “It has been a great eight years with Breakfast and I’m really proud of the show we have created. This is an opportunity to do something different and I am looking forward to working with Paul Barry and the Media Watch team and of course not getting up at 4am every day.

“I’m also looking forward to making the change from radio to television; 2014 is a critical year for the media as all mediums try to make sense of the changing landscape.”

He has also written a true crime story titled Norfolk: Island of Secrets, published in 2006.

Last year also saw veteran presenter Jonathan Holmes stand down from the role, to be replaced by Paul Barry

Former Media Watch EP Lin Buckfield is leaving the ABC to join her partner in New York City.

Richard Finlayson, director of ABC Television, said: “I would like to thank Lin for her leadership and contribution to Media Watch over the past three years. It’s a tough position and I respect the way she has handled every challenge along the way.

“Tim is an excellent appointment for this role given his extensive producing and leadership experience at the helm of one of Australia’s most respected radio programs. I have no doubt he will bring the same tenacity and enthusiasm to Media Watch.”
