ABC’s Peter Lewis and SBS’s Peeyush Gupta reappointed to board roles for another five years
The federal government has reappointed Peter Lewis to the ABC board and Peeyush Gupta to the board of SBS for another five years.
Both will begin their second terms in October – Lewis on the 2nd and Gupta the 16th.
Lewis has served on the board for the ABC since October 2014. He is a former Seven West Media chief financial officer and authored a report on cost efficiencies the public broadcaster could make shortly before joining. He is the chair of the ABC Audit and Risk Committee and is one of the most experienced members of the board.
At the time of Lewis’ appointment in 2014, the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) issued a statement saying it was a “hostile appointment that it is simply politically motivated”.
Gupta brings three decades of executive experience in finance and strategy to his role and is also a director at National Australia Bank and chairman of Charter Hall Property Management.
Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, Paul Fletcher said the reappointments provide continuity and maintain strong leadership at the national broadcasters.
“I congratulate Mr Lewis and Mr Gupta on their reappointments and look forward to the valuable and ongoing contributions they will make to the ABC and SBS Boards,” Fletcher said.
