ACP gears up to take on News Magazines following acquisition of Recipes+

ACP Magazines has acquired food title Recipes+ from independent publisher Knockout Media, as it attempts to muscle in on News Magazines’ market-leading position in the food category.

Recipes+ joins ACP’s current crop of magazines which includes its premium food and wine title Gourmet Traveller and Good Food. It also marks the publisher’s first foray into the mass market food publishing sector.

Recipes+ was launched in 2003 by Knockout Media as a quarterly with a cover price of $2.60, aimed at budget conscious cooks. It increased frequency to bi-monthly in May 2007 before switching to monthly frequency a year later. The cover price was increased to $3.30 last July.

The magazine recorded a 16.6 per cent circulation rise in the six months to December last year to 133,876, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures.

News Magazines currently dominates the food category with a 67.8 per cent share, according to the ABC. Its main titles are Super Food Ideas, Woolworths Australian Good Taste, Delicious and Donna Hay. Its biggest circulating title, Super Food Ideas, rose 5.8 per cent to 287,000.

The publisher also has an umbrella website with Taste.com.au, which houses content for its food titles.

Meanwhile, News Magazines is preparing the launch of  MasterChef magazine in May.
