Ad industry veteran Rachael Lonergan launches cancer support app, CanDo

Twenty-year ad industry veteran and head of strategy at media agency Foundation, Rachael Lonergan, has launched the CanDo app to help people going through treatment for serious illness.

Developed in collaboration with the Garvan Research Foundation after Lonergan’s own experience with breast cancer, CanDo is designed to make it easier for patients and their carers to ask their networks for help and support when living with a serious illness.

“There’s something everyone can do:” CanDo founder Rachel Lonergan

“I’ve seen first-hand how cancer is life-changing, and how hard it can be to ask for help,” said Lonergan, who lost her sister to sarcoma – another form of cancer – in 2014. “CanDo is the app I wish I had when going through treatment and well after.

“During an overwhelming time, CanDo lets you say yes to help, but articulate what you need. It also gives people who want to help, a platform to offer it without feeling embarrassed. It can be used for everything from personal tasks like changing bedsheets to helping with finances – there’s something everyone can do.”

Andrew Giles, CEO of the Garvan Research Foundation, added: “Garvan is proud to be involved with CanDo. People with disease or undergoing treatment need support and assistance and this is a great initiative to help ease some of the burden”

“Garvan researchers are dedicated to improving human health and the impact of disease. For those with disease, and their families, CanDo is a really helpful support tool.”

CanDo is free to download and use from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
