Ad suggests being a banker is a social faux pas – unless it’s for St George

St George Bank has relaunched an ad suggesting its embarrassing to work in banking unless it’s for St George.

The ad, created by Ogilvy, sees barbecue diners fall silent after a guest reveals that he’s a banker – until he hastily adds that he’s with St George.

The campaign is the latest in a series to tap into the public dislike of the banking industry.

ANZ created bad tempered Barbara the bank manager, who live in Bank World, while NAB ran its much discussed breakup campaign highlighting the failings of its competitors.

St George is a subsidiary of Westpac.

The production company was the Ogilvy-aligned Plush.

The new campaign is a re-edit of an ad that first ran in 2004.
