AFL and news help Seven to Friday night TV ratings win

The AFL and news have helped Seven to a Friday night TV ratings win, with a 25.5% main channel share, compared to Nine’s 17.7%.

On Seven, the Swans vs Adelaide Crows drew a crowd of 631,000 – over half of which came from Melbourne, with 307,000. In Adelaide, the match – which saw more pain for the Swans – drew a crowd of 172,000. In Sydney, the match attracted 58,000 to 7mate.

Nine’s most-watched show of the night was its news offering, with 753,000 metro viewers tuning in. Its second most popular show was A Current Affair, which clocked up 456,000 metro viewers.

Outside of current affairs, the NRL saw 378,000 metro viewers tuning into the Parramatta Eels vs Sydney Roosters game, making it the most-watched non-news show for Nine. The match was most popular in Sydney, with 227,000 tuning in.

Ten’s main channel attracted a 10.50% share, which was boosted by 411,000 tuning in to The Living Room at 7.30pm.

ABC’s most-watched program was its news show, with 558,000 metro viewers, followed by 409,000 for Gardening Australia. The broadcaster was unable to beat Ten in main channel share, pulling 8.90% of the audience.

SBS managed a 4% share on its main channel.

On a network level, Seven pulled in 37.5% share of audience, compared to Nine’s 26.6%. Ten’s network beat ABC, with 16% vs 13.9% respectively.
