AFL sees Seven dominate Friday night’s ratings

Seven’s AFL coverage topping the night’s viewing with a 1.154m metro audience, beating Nine’s NRL broadcast’s 675,000 viewers according to OzTAM’s preliminary overnight ratings.

The Richmond-Collingwood final saw Seven’s main channel take a metro audience share 31.9% for the evening with Mate, which broadcast the AFL in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane, taking a 8.3% share. Nine’s main channel audience was 18.8% while Ten attracted 7.1%, behind the ABC’s 8.9%.


Seven also saw success with non-sports coverage with Better Homes and Gardens – which went out on the main channel in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth – being the top rating entertainment show with 597,000 metro viewers and The Chase Australia attracting 502,000.

Ten’s best performing show was The Project with 373,000 and the news with 370,000. its best non-news show for the evening was The Living Room with 319,000, well behind the Nine’s The Hot Seat and ABC’s Gardening Australia which saw 346,000 and 401,000 metro viewers respectively.

Seven’s AFL success saw the network take an overall 45.4% metro share for the night with Nine scoring 24.0%, the ABC taking 13.1%, Ten 12.1% and SBS 5.5%.
