AFL Trade Radio knocks Hamish and Andy off the top of the monthly podcast ranker
Hamish and Andy, who took the top spot in the inaugural Australian Podcast Ranker, announced by Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) at last month’s Radio Alive conference, have been knocked off by AFL Trade Radio from SEN/Crocmedia.
The two radio stalwarts, whose podcast comes from Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Podcast One Australia, were knocked into second position by the AFL show, which rose 13 spots from 14 last ranking.
The move also pushed Kate, Tim and Marty – the Nova radio catch-up podcast for its drive show, into third place from second last month.
Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) The Kyle and Jackie O Show rose two spots from last ranking into fourth, followed by SEN Breakfast which held steady in fifth place.
The ranking launched with a foundation group of podcast publishers, including News Corp Australia, Podcast One Australia, Nova, SCA, ARN and SEN/Crocmedia. The invitation has been extended for other publishers who want to be involved with the ranking.
Macquarie Media’s top entry was Money News with Ross Greenwood which landed in sixth position, up six spots from last month. It was followed by News Corp Australia’s Life and Crimes with Andrew Rule and SCA/Podcast One’s The Howie Games. Life and Crimes rose two spots and The Howie Games five.
The Alan Jones Breakfast Show took ninth position with a six spot rise, and Kennedy Molloy rounded out the top ten after an eight spot rise.
The Australian Podcast Ranker is based on a 4-week reporting period. The entities listed are ranked by Average Weekly Downloads (Monday to Sunday) in accordance with the latest IAB Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines.
The biggest movers for the month were SCA’s Rush Hour Melbourne which fell 55 places to 62 and News Corp Australia’s Fox Rugby Podcast which rose 52 spots to 25.

Podcast rankings that don’t include podcast producers? Not only are these rankings meaningless and totally misleading but it highlights just out of touch the radio industry is and how unaware they are of the actual audio industry.

Podcast producers are welcome to join the ranker, so come fight from the inside, rather than shout from the outside.
