Agencies create ‘green’ team

Australia’s screen agencies will form the National Green Screen Committee (NGSC), an ‘environmental coalition’ for the industry, aiming to develop environmentally sustainable business practices.

The NGSC will develop guidelines, resources and standards for the screen industry, with representatives from Film Victoria, Screen Queensland, Northern Territory Film Office, Screen NSW, Screen Tasmania, ScreenWest, the South Australian Film Corporation, ScreenACT and Screen Australia.

It is the result of a Film Victoria Initiative, and a national implementation strategy is expected later this year.

In a joint press release, the agencies’ CEOs said that a national leadership is necessary for Australia to reduce its screen industry environmental footprint and become a leader in the area.

The NGSC will audit each sector of the industry to set benchmarks, as well as provide training at screen events and conferences. Their research and other materials will be made available to the industry.
